About the Curatorial Associate Role: 

BRIC seeks a Curatorial Associate, to support the Contemporary Art department through administrative, operational, registrarial, and curatorial work for exhibitions, artist opportunity initiatives, public programs, and other projects to ensure the smooth functioning of the department, its exhibitions, and programs.

What You’ll Do in the Role:

The Curatorial Associate will be responsible for the following in addition to any other project as assigned by their manager, the Curator:

Departmental and Project Administration

  • Create and update key documents for each exhibition: artist correspondence and loan agreements, master exhibition spreadsheets, exhibition checklists, insurance documents, price lists, images, and marketing collateral.
  • Process routine and special payment requests for artists, program presenters, vendors, etc. Manage departmental petty cash, credit card accounting, and maintain project budget expense tracking. 
  • Create and update exhibition calendars (gallery, project room, and hallway exhibitions) and maintain installation schedules and production timelines. 
  • Prepare PowerPoints for presentation at Board and external meetings.
  • Other administrative duties include planning, coordinating and organizing meetings and events; taking meeting notes; maintaining extensive Contemporary Art records and documents; and drafting correspondence and other documents.


  • Hire, manage, train, and schedule part-time gallery attendants, as needed
  • In collaboration with Marketing staff, maintain and report on visitor attendance statistics; set up and maintain Universe visitor registration system. 
  • Assist with event management including drafting event production sheets; overseeing event logistics; acting as liaison to tech crew and artists; providing basic hospitality to presenters; providing hospitality for openings, receptions, and other public events. 


Work closely with the Gallery Manager and Curator to manage elements of BRIClab, an artist residency program.

  • Assist with the administration of two large annual open-calls and prepare applications for panel review; arrange and participate in meetings.
  • Act as liaison to artists in residence, and coordinate administrative and operational needs of their residencies. 


  • Create and update PowerPoints/Slides that act as the master visual documents for each exhibition; Create and update PowerPoints/Slides that are used as the repositories of ideas, for lectures and other presentations, and for research for potential future shows. 
  • Occasional curatorial research projects and writing of artist biographies as needed.
  • Potential opportunities to curate Project Room or Hallway exhibitions.

You’ll Bring these Skills and Strengths to the Role:

  • Mission & Values Alignment: A passion for BRIC’s support of the arts in Brooklyn and a deep commitment to building community, igniting learning and making change through the arts and creativity.
  • Experience:  Minimum of 2 years full-time experience in an art museum, gallery, or other organization dedicated to contemporary art and visual artists.  Strong familiarity with contemporary art and a preference for knowledge of the New York contemporary art community.  
  • Education:  Minimum - a BA in art history or curatorial studies degree.
  • Highly organized, self starter; solid interpersonal skills; strong written and oral communication skills
  • Computer literacy:  Google platform, Slack, and Asana; ability to operate standard office equipment; basic math; excellent time management; and attention to detail and problem solving skills
  • Excellent follow through skills and ability to handle multiple projects 

Other Things to Know:

  • Compensation: The annual salary range for this position is $45k-48k.
  • Status and location: This is a full-time, exempt role based in our Brooklyn office.
